HOPE is a great name for this girl- you can even see it in her eyes....

This truly beautiful young apricot Mastiff girl was found wandering, half starved, and taken to an animal shelter where SSMR rescued her and took her into foster care. She is very thin- at about eighty-three pounds. And her skin/coat was ragged - she has been given antibiotics for it and is responding already to it. With good food and good care she should be a sleek and healthy looking girl in no time. Thank goodness she tested negative for heartworms and is in otherwise apparent good health.

The shelter volunteers and employees told us that Hope was very sweet and loving to everyone she encountered there.

Hope is submissively sweet upon meeting new people- she only wants to be loved and to be settled. You can tell that she is intelligent- is questioning what has happened to her but so grateful for food and attention!

More information will be updated here after she has been in foster care a few days and more is known to share.

UPDATE FROM HER FOSTER MOM- DEC15,2009

"Hope is house trained, and uses her doggie door well
She walks well on a leash, comes when call, knows sit, and down
She's very sweet, takes treats very gently and is currently free fed due to being under weight, but does not gobble her food.
She is not an excessive barker, is getting along with most of the other Mastiffs she is with.
She likes her bedding and does not chew it."
