A Tribute To Mandy - Submitted By Her New Family

A Tribute to Mandy

This is a poem about our new dog-
knew I love her forever, first time I got pawed.

She's sweet, funny, and always up for a rub-
will do most anything for just a bit of grub.

Great at naps, walks, and rides to see what we can see,
most days we get to do a nice mix of all three.

But if you want to swim, she'll catch you later.
When it comes to water, she's more of a wader.

She's always entertaining and never a bore.
Even when sleeping, there's a nice peaceful snore.

Unaware of her size, gentle as a dove-
trying to fit on your lap, a bundle of love.

I know this verse is down right sappy,
but since our girl's arrived, we are outrageously happy!

Should you have a pat to spare she's always going to be handy-
and our new favorite hobby is sharing life with Mandy.

Thanks to all at Southern States Mastiff Rescue for the great work that you do.

Mandy Update, October 2007

Hi Erika, (Mandy's SSMR Foster Mom)

Mandy received her Canine Good Citizenship diploma today and was (my unbiased opinion of course) the most outstanding dog in her class! Actually we were used as the example of how to do everything. She continues to amaze me every day just being her loving, goofy self. In January she and I will take the Pet Partners Therapy Dog class. I am looking forward to it. Hopefully more people will have the opportunity to experience the joy of such a wonderful dog. I keep up with all the Mastiffs that come through SC on line. Oh that Maddox and his tongue! He looks darling. Good luck with your work. I'll continue to report in. Thanks again.

A very good house dog.

See below- favors one hip but is not dysplastic

MANDY II   - ADOPTED!

MANDY II is a very sweet 2 year old fawn girl who loves people and Dogs of all shapes and sizes (see above photo of Mandy with one of her foster family's pomeranians!)

Mandy is a very playful young fawn Mastiff girl of approx 2 yr old or less with an absolutely delightful temperament!

She seems to know basic obedience, walks well on leash and is also has been the perfect house guest at her foster home so far.

Mandy II does well with other dogs of all sizes- however she is unsure about the cats- at this point we feel she should go to a home without cats because she shows a bit too much interest in them for our liking.

Mandy did so well when we gave her a bath- she really tolerated all well.

Mandy tested positive for heartworms and is being treated for that right now & because Mandy appears to be favoring one hind leg more than the other, she will be evaluated for that this week by a veterinarian.

NOTE: Mandy has seen a veterinarian who evaluated her and says that she has had a past injury to one hip at some time in the past- and that this is why she favors one hip. He says it is not hip dysplaysia. It does not affect her now, but in the future it is possible that she will have arthritis in that hip. Possibly giving her chondroitin and glucosamin would be a help to her- and her new home might want her to see an orthopedist to discuss if there is anything else that could be done to keep her hip joint as healthy as possible.
