From My Foster Mom: Marley is a very
sweet and lovable fawn Mastiff boy. He's
very well mannered in the house (no
counter surfing, digging in trash, or
chewing). .
He's a VERY strong dog and we recommend
getting a chest harness with the D ring
in front for walks as he does get
excited when people ride bikes nearby,
or people walking dogs (esp. when their
owners let them lunge at him), and
delivery trucks freak him out. Other
than that, he walks very well on a
leash.
He's pretty laid back, but he does
require some exercise, we take him out
every morning for a walk. He enjoys
being chased in the yard, usually we
just stand in one spot while he zips
around us and we pretend to try to catch
him. He likes to poop in the back corner
and along the fence line, but if we
don't pick it up every other day, he'll
step in it and that's no fun!
He LOVES being brushed and he enjoys
getting baths and LOVES being dried with
a towel. He'll get up on the furniture
if you let him, at first we were
allowing it, but there's just too much
hair and he responded well to the
training of not going on the furniture.
He's protective of our house and family,
but he's never shown signs of aggression
to anyone that's came into our house,
but we always have our guest greet him
with a treat. He has no issues with
being hugged and LOVES to be with you.
Marley will not be placed in a home with
other dogs. He will thrive as an only
dog where he can be 'king' of the house!
When he first came to live with us, we
were worried about the cats because they
were an unknown. He adapted to the cats
with surprising ease. Our male LOVES
Marley and rubs up against him and stick
his butt in his face every chance he
gets and Marley just ignores him or
snuffles him, but we did have to
intercept a few chases early on.
He really does like everyone he meets,
esp. men and unless the dog is super
friendly and submissive, he really needs
to be the only dog in the household.
But then again, we started off on the
wrong foot with both dogs.....so who
knows?
