NOTE: Spring 2009

We are in DIRE need of foster homes will you help?

Times are tough and Mastiffs are turning up in shelters in droves. We know we can't 'help them all'. But will you help us to save the ones we can?

If you have ever thought about offering a safe refuge to a special Mastiff...now is the time to literally save the life of a Mastiff by doing what you can to help. Please help us so we don't have to turn any of them away.

SSMR has been proud that we have never had to turn away a Mastiff before because we could not accommodate them -and we do not want to be in that position but it is on the horizon quickly if new volunteers do not come forward in Florida and in other states. Please volunteer to foster a Mastiff or in ANY of the Southern States region TODAY.

A family who loves to be home a and understands her shyness.

Meet Ms. Mary - a pretty three year old Fawn spayed Female Mastiff.

Mary's 'tail' began in Fort Meyers, FL. You see Mary's family needed to move out of state and apparently had no intentions on bringing her with them.

One cold morning in December, a Vet Tech that the family knew, from their vet's office found Ms. Mary shivering with cold standing on her front porch.

The vet tech walked Mary down to her family's house and found the people had moved away that  very night- leaving poor Mary alone, hungry, thirsty, frightened and cold.Mary was very afraid.
Mary is 3 in wonderful health. She was spayed last December and fully has had excellent veterinary care.

Mary is Heart Worm Negative and crate trained. Due to her old family not being 'the best place for her to have live' they did not take Mary anywhere when she was a puppy. She only knew her crate and the back yard (in a very small dose).

Mary has become what she was raised to be- a very sweet and loving home body, who is afraid of new situations, due to lack of socialization. However after only a couple of days she was greeting the foster family with kisses!

Her foster family has 2 children ages 6 and 9, which are new to her. She seems to like children very much and is doing quite well with them. She has ignored all of their cats too- which is good!

Mary was living with dogs of all size before she come into rescue and did beautifully with all of them.
Her Foster mom is located in Dunedin, FL.They are working hard to help Mary over come her fears. More to follow as she learns.

If you have the time and love in your heart to make me a family member for ever please fill out an adoption application at adoption application mentioning me by name and state.
