Oz is a beautiful neutered brindle boy weighing in
at 151 lbs who will be 2 years old in January. He is up to date on his shots, and will be
micro-chipped before he is adopted. Oz gets along well with
other dogs, kids, and cats. He only chews on things that are his,
and he is house trained.
Oz is EXTREMELY timid and afraid of strangers and
new situations and is really a homebody Mastiff who wants nothing
more than to lie at your feet and to share your daily home life with
him. His foster mom will be working with him to try and
bring him out of his shell a bit before he will move to a new home.
Because of this shyness his foster mom thinks it best that he be
placed in a quieter home, with little outside activity. Oz is
not the Mastiff for you if you expect to take your Mastiff out and
about in public often. He will always be a wonderful Mastiff at home
in his environment where he feels secure and loved.
NEW! Below is a
'letter from Oz' sent through Oz's foster mom:
Hi…My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings, but my friends call me OZ.
I am two years old and in good health. My current family loves me
very much and really doesn’t want me to have a new home but Mom has
been sick and can’t give me all the attention that she knows I
need. Here are a few things that will help you to get to know me a
little easier:
-
The food I
have been eating for most of my life is Nutro Large Breed
Lamb and Rice (big green bag). Mom and Dad buy it at PetCo
but it is available in many places. When I came to live at my
current home Mom had to hand feed me for a few days until I
wasn’t so afraid. Now I love food but may need a little
pampering for a few days. I eat 4 cups at 5:00 a.m. and then
four more cups at 5:00 p.m. I do not get a lot of table food,
in fact probably not nearly enough, but Mom and Dad say I am
better without it. I do get white rice, pasta or potatoes if
there are leftovers and if I seem particularly hungry.
-
Hint (shhhh Dad
sometimes uses “I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter Spray”) when he
wants me to eat it all up. Mmmm.mmmm.
-
Treats
– I love treats and they really motivate me to do things I may
be timid about. My favorite treat right now is “Good Life
Recipe Wholesome Biscuits” but I also like Milk Bones, the
bigger the better, Marrowbones, and CHEESE DOODLES if I can con
Dad into sharing, (that is what Dad used to win me over when I
first came to live with them.) Also, if you have an ice machine
on your refrigerator you will find me running to it to get an
ice cube. They are my favorite and make me feel like the puppy
I am. I love to chase them across the kitchen floor.
-
Drool
– When I am done drinking I will hold my head up and give you a
chance to wipe my mouth, if you’re quick enough. My slingers
can get really big and I am proud of them. The only other time
I drool is if I watch someone eating something that smells
really good.
-
I am a really good
sleeper. I go to bed between 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. during the
week but on the week-ends we stay up late. I sleep in Mom and
Dad’s room on my bed. I snore sometimes but not loud at all. I
can usually hold my bladder until we get up in the morning at
about 4:30 a.m. during the week. On the week-end we all sleep
in and depending on what time I went out the night before I can
sometimes sleep until 7:00 a.m. or later. I will let Dad know I
can’t wait any longer by putting my head on him in bed and then
nudging him.
-
I have full
house privileges, I do not chew on anything except my own
things and I do not get on the furniture. Mom said No and No
means No. I no longer use my crate. I love to look out the
window but I am not supposed to bark at the mailman but I still
do sometimes.
-
Toys
– I have a lot of them. Right now my favorite is my stuffed pig
or my slobber kitty. I also have my hard bones to chew on and I
can spend hours doing just that. They come filled with cheese
or peanut butter and it makes me crazy trying to get it all out
of the center. I also like to fetch balls when thrown to me and
can run really fast, but Dad will make me slow down to keep from
hurting my self. (bummer)
-
Friends
– My best friend is my cat. He and I have been together for a
long time. I also love other dogs, they say I am not an alpha
(whatever that means) and have no problem playing with little
kids. I like to play on the floor and run in the back yard. I
just have to be careful because I am a big dog and a little
clumsy and can knock over someone if I am not careful.
-
I am a little
timid and afraid. When we have company it is better if
everyone just ignores me for awhile and then after about an hour
I will start to make friends. When Dad dropped the water dish
and made that loud noise a few days ago I was very nervous for a
few hours.
Walking
for me is not my favorite. It’s not that I don’t like to walk, I do
but all the things going on around me can sometimes make me a little
scared and I want to go back home. If I go walking in the same
place over and over again it’s not so bad.
I really love
to go for rides in the car or truck but it takes me awhile
before I am comfortable walking around in the pet store or other
places. I went to the vet a few weeks ago and Dad says I did really
good. I was a little afraid but eventually given time I let her exam
me (if Dad was close by). She gave me a couple of shots and it
didn’t hurt a bit. I had one small accident, well small for me, but
that was just because I was nervous.
Petting
– Once I know you, I love to be touched. My favorite spots are
behind my ears, my belly and Mom loves to caress under my chin. It
doesn’t get much better than that unless I am lying on my back with
all four legs in the air and Dad is scratching my belly. That is
pure dog heaven.
I guess that’s
about all I can tell you for now about me. Hopefully we will build
our own special moments. "
