Sophie Update/Happy Ending

Sophie’s Happy Ending

My wife, Erin, and I were so excited when we traveled to Chesapeake, VA to meet Sophie.  We were anxious as to whether Sophie would like us; would she come and give us kisses right away or run in the opposite direction?  It ended up it was a little of both.  Her tail was tucked beneath her legs, but she was at least letting us pet her.  We decided to take her home and see if it was a match.  As we made our way back to our vehicle, we opened the back to sign some the paperwork.  Car rides being one of Sophie’s favorite activities, she saw the golden opportunity to jump inside and settle down the backseat.  But, oops, this was not the car she thought it was…how was she ever going to get out of this one!

It broke our hearts as we drove away and her sad little eyes were staring out the back window at her foster dad as he grew smaller and smaller.  She didn’t get any better the whole ride home.  Sulking and fearful about what lay ahead, she didn’t pay much attention to these two new people in her life.  But we were determined to show her as much love as we could give her.  Beginning with several new toys, boxes of treats, and a cushy bed, she began to see that these two new people weren’t going to be so bad after all!

Sophie adjusted quite well.  She quickly made friends with the dozens of geese in the pond behind our house and instantly took advantage of our showering her with gifts and love!  After a trip to see the family (don’t worry we told her she would not look like everyone else!) she knew that she was not going any where but back home with us.

She was so eager to please and learn.  She loves all of her stuffed animals, all the children at the church who play with her, and her boyfriend Asher (a brindled Mastiff) who gave her the pink purse in the picture below.  She cheers for the Hokies, the Yankees, and the Cowboys and suddenly learned that Dad is a little crazy when it comes to sports!

We are very blessed and she has become a wonderful addition to our family!  We couldn’t imagine our lives without her.  Everyone who meets her falls in love with her quiet demeanor and lovable attitude.  Thank you SSMR for giving us the joy of having Sophie make our home Sophie’s forever home.

SOPHIE

Sophie is a 2 year old petite apricot girl. She was recently returned to rescue because her family dynamic changed. Sophie is a very active girl that loves to run and play fetch with her owners or other dog buddies. She gets along well with dogs, and loves children. Because of her desire to run and chase, she would not do well with cats (though she has never attempted to hurt the cats in her foster home, just loves to chase them). She will need to attend obedience class to help her become a well mannered member of the family.

She is up to date on her shots, HW negative, on preventive, michrchipped, and ready to go to her new home.

Sophie prefers the company of women, and needs to be properly introduced to men that visit the home. Also, she despises the lawn mower. She will openly attack the tires on the lawnmower, so she will need to be kept in the house when mowing is done.
