CHIP AND MANSTER'S STORY

Our story started about 3 years ago when we were first approved to adopt an English Mastiff. It was hard to get a Mastiff placed into our home because we had a small dog already and 2 very small children 1 & 4 years old, but we did not give up.

This past year my husband was transferred with his job and we moved from Virginia to Tennessee. Once we got settled in at our new home we re-applied with Southern States Mastiff Rescue. My boys were a little older and we still had a small dog but we weren’t going to give up because we really wanted to adopt a Mastiff.

We watched the website until in Florida we saw a photo of Chip and Manny. They were raised on a farm so they were good with small animals and they were also raised with children so they were good with children, we thought this could be a match made in Heaven.

I emailed Karen (who was fostering the boys) and she emailed back right away and the more that we talked the more I felt like these were to be our dogs. We had a family meeting and discussed adopting Chip and Manny and prayed together that God would give us wisdom and direction. After talking to Karen a couple more times and another family meeting we decided yes that these were our dogs.

We had already fallen in love with them and had not even met them. On the first Saturday in August we all loaded up and made a 6 hour drive to Savannah GA. At the same time Karen loaded the dogs and headed to Savannah also. We were so excited to meet the boys, that we had been watching on our balcony to see if we might get lucky and see Karen pull into the hotel with them, and sure enough we saw her walking them in a field by the hotel.

I told my husband when we saw her that had to be Manny and Chip what were the odds another lady staying at the hotel having 2 180 lb dogs? It was love at first site for both the dogs and us, so the next morning we left Savannah with 2 new family members.

We have had Chip and Manny for about 5 weeks now and already we couldn’t imagine our lives without them. I would love to say it has all been easy as pie, but it takes a little getting used to have to GIANT Mastiffs in the house, but it has been worth every minute of it. Thank you Mastiff Rescue for all you do to help these gentle giants and thank you so much for helping our family to grow.
